Will Diaspora give Facebook a run for the money? I’m keeping a close eye on this project. If you’ve seen the video of the Diaspora team, you’ve already fallen in love with this story. These students are developing an open source competitor to Facebook. An alternative social network where the users have full control and ownership of their information. This is an example of a real life David and Goliath struggle, only this time fought for the privacy of the people. Gotta love it! They set out to raise $10k for a summer project and at the time of this post they had raised over $173,000 or 1730% of their fundraising goal. And I expect this number to continue to rise as people around the world begin to learn of the project.
